Tree work is one of the higher-risk trades there is. Workers are up a tree, running saws, moving heavy limbs over your house and vehicles. When it goes wrong, it goes wrong fast, and the question of who pays comes down to two pieces of paper.
WCB coverage protects you if a worker is hurt
If a crew member is injured on your property and the company does not carry Workers' Compensation Board coverage, you can be exposed to their medical and wage-loss costs. WCB coverage moves that liability off you. Always ask for a clearance letter, not just a verbal assurance.
Liability insurance protects your property
If a limb goes through your roof, your neighbour's fence, or a parked car, liability insurance is what covers the damage. A minimum of $5 million in commercial general liability is standard for professional tree work, and it is required for most municipal and utility contracts. An uninsured crew leaves you to absorb the loss.
The two questions to ask before anyone climbs
- 01Can you show me a current WCB clearance letter?
- 02Can you show me proof of at least $5M commercial general liability insurance?
We carry $5M liability and WCB coverage on every job, residential and commercial, and we are happy to provide documentation before we start. It is the baseline for letting someone work over your home.
